Horse Slaughter Bill Passes
H.R. 503 passed the House of Representatives with 263 votes. To see how your representative voted see here.

A happy day for horses! Hopefully the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act will pass in the Senate in 2006 and become law this year so horses like these will never again be sent to slaugnter. S. 1915 must pass this year.

History was made on Thursday, September 7, 2006 when H.R. 503, The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, was passed by the House of Representatives with 263 votes! Many thanks to Congressmen John Sweeney (NY) and Ed Whitfield (KY) for leading the charge, and to all the courageous members of the House who voted down Virginia's Bob Goodlatte's and Iowa's Steve King's hostile amendments which would have completely changed the effectiveness of the bill. Thanks also to all the equine advocates who really got involved and helped to make this happen. Congratulations to all!

Nelson, a wild American Mustang stallion, was rescued by Equine Advocates in 2005. The swift passages of The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act would ensure that no American horses could be slaughtered for human consumption in the US or transported across the Canadian and Mexican borders for that purpose ever again.
