Awaiting Trip to Slaughterhouse

This is the first and least graphic of a series of 13 photos which take you through a typical sequence of how horses are killed and butchered at a slaughterhouse.

This first photo shows a pathetically emaciated and badly neglected horse still at a slaughter auction who had just been purchased by a "killer buyer". The next step would be for the horse to be led into a "kill pen", where the "killer buyer" stockpiles his horses before loading them on to trucks, some of which are inhumane double-decker cattle trailers (illegal in some states because they are inhumane for the transport of horses).

The handling and trip to the slaughterhouse usually involves rough and brutal handling of the horses, and often takes over 24 hours where the horses are cramped into tight quarters without being given food, water or rest for the entire duration of the "trip". This "last ride" ends at the slaughter plant.

WARNING: THE NEXT PHOTOS IN THIS SERIES OF 13 ARE EXTREMELY GRAPHIC AS THEY SHOW THE HORROR OF HORSES ACTUALLY BEING SLAUGHTERED AT A SLAUGHTER PLANT.
