Rescue Stories: Rescue in the Rockies

Stormy - when rescued

In 1998, EAI was summoned to the wild, wild West to investigate an abuse case. The result was the rescue of "Stormy" and eight other horses from an abusive rancher, who unfortunately is still in business. "It seemed as though this horse was more dead than alive when we rescued him," said Equine Advocates' president, Susan Wagner.

Stormy - just 3 weeks later

"His spirit and will to live were just incredible, despite all that he had been through. As starved and as weak as he was, he jumped on to the trailer and never looked back." Today, this kind and gentle old guy, who has since gained over 500 lbs., has been sent to the Montana Large Animal Sanctuary. "He started to gain weight immediately, "Wagner added. "Within three weeks, you couldn't tell it was the same horse." His "buddies," who came from the same place and shared the same traumatic and terrifying experiences, are with him, all keeping each other company.
